Mr Abu established and run this two-day course since 2007. The course is aimed at other consultants in gynaecology wishing to gain advanced hands-on-experience in minimally invasive (keyhole) gynaecological surgery (see course programme below). The course is fully approved by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) for CME credits for consultants who attend the course. It is a bi-annual course, usually in June and December every year.
The course contents comprise theoretical lectures, instrument/instrumentation training, cadaver workshop (hands on training for all the delegates), and live operating sessions. The live operating is undertaken by Mr Abu and his team of doctors and nurses whilst all the attending delegates watch and ask questions about the surgical procedure been performed.
Following the completion of the course, Mr Abu also offers mentorship training to delegates who wish to do so, by visiting them in their hospital and helping them through their first few cases. This is a very successful program of training for other consultants with a procedure take-up rate of almost 100%.
With special thanks to Mr Jaf Abu and his team, Medtronic and Storz.
